Yahtzee features
On Ludicash, Yahtzee is taken seriously, and we offer different variations of Yams to add a little spice to the game and to provide versions for more experienced players.
Yahtzee 5 or Yahtzee 6?
Yahtzee is generally available with 5 dice, and is the most common version of the Yahtzee game worldwide. However, Ludicash offers an innovative variant of Yahtzee with 6 dice.
A word of advice: practice the 5-dice version before moving on to the 6-dice version, as the latter is slightly more complex and requires you to know a few subtleties before embarking on this variant.
Turbo mode
A firm favorite among our game modes, Accelerated mode is perfect for those looking to maximize their playing time with a rapid succession of dice rolls.
Simultaneous mode
Don't like waiting your turn? No problem, synchronized mode lets you play simultaneously with your opponent. You'll only see the scores you score after each roll of the dice.
Joker die
Exclusive to 5-dice Yahtzee, you can activate the Joker die option. A small joker appears to the right of the selected dice, and you can click on the joker once during the game to change the value of a die. For example, if you have four "2s" and a "5", click on the joker and then on the 5 to score a Yahtzee.
Mystery mode
Don't have the time or inclination to chat? No problem, you can activate the anonymous mode and your avatar will be masked. You won't know who your opponent is, and they won't know who you are either. It's also handy when you're an experienced player who can intimidate others.
Two game formats at Yahtzee
In addition to a host of options designed to enrich your online Yahtzee games, Ludicash offers two distinct game formats.
The "Two Player" mode is the traditional format you'll find when playing Yahtzee online. You're pitted against another player on the same table, and you roll the dice either alternately or simultaneously, keeping score to accumulate as many points as possible.
The "Duplicate Yahtzee" mode is for those who prefer to minimize the luck factor and focus on statistics. With each roll of the dice, you're constantly calculating the probabilities to compose the best combinations. The "Dupli" mode is ideal for you, as the first roll of the dice is identical for you and your opponent.

5-dice Yahtzee rules
Below are the detailed rules for playing Yahtzee at LudiCash. Our Yams game follows the most commonly used rules worldwide. See the complete Yahtzee rules
Playing the game
Yahtzee is played with 5 dice numbered from 1 to 6. The aim of the game is to get as many points as possible from the dice combinations.
Each player rolls the dice three times, with the option of keeping from 1 to 5 dice between rounds. If a player is satisfied with his or her draw on the first or second throw, he or she is not obliged to roll the dice again.
Each round consists of the following actions:
- 1 to 3 rolls of the dice
- Keep one or more dice between rounds
- Confirm a combination by clicking on the score sheet
The different types of scores
On the combination grid, you'll see that there are 13 actions to perform. The top part of the grid, also called the minor part, is for numbers, while the second part, the major part, is for combinations.
The figures
It's all about getting as many points as possible for each die value. This applies to 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's and 6's. For example, if you roll 2 four times, you score 4×2 = 8 points in the 2's box.
Bonus figures :
If the sum of points scored from 1 to 6 reaches or exceeds 63 points, you earn an additional bonus of 35 points, which will be added to your total score.
Combinations
There are 7 combinations to complete.
- Three of a kind: 3 dice with the same value.
- The square: 4 dice with the same value.
- Full house: 3 dice of one value and 2 dice of another value.
- The little suite: a sequence of 4 consecutive dice.
- The grand suite: a sequence of 5 consecutive dice.
- Luck: the sum of your 5 dice.
- Yahtzee: 5 dice with the same value.
Players take turns. Once each player has completed 13 rounds, the final scores are calculated and the game ends. The player with the most points wins the game.
FAQ
What distinguishes Yams from Yahtzee?
This well-known dice game is played all over the world. However, depending on the country you're in - be it English-, French- or German-speaking - you may find it's called Yahtzee, Yams, Yam's, Yatzi... Discover the origin of Yahtzee to better understand the different names.
Depending on the region, there may be slight variations, particularly in the calculation of points, but the rules remain virtually the same everywhere: 5 dice, 13 combinations and lots of fun.
I've made a square of 6. Should I place it in the square box or in the 6 box?
At the start of the game, you may be wondering whether it's better to concentrate on the numbers or on the lower combinations? Have you just made a square of 6 at the start of the game? We recommend that you place it in the 6's box, not the square. The reason is simple: it will help you reach the 35-point bonus more easily. What's more, if you miss a throw, you'll be able to enter a lower score in the 1s and 2s boxes.
